About Our Products

Yes. Every Silly Goats Soap Company product is handmade, packaged, and labeled right here in our soap shop in South-Central Kentucky. We do not outsource any part of our production or packaging.

From making the products to filling the bottles, cutting and wrapping the soap, applying the labels, and packing your order, it all happens right here at Silly Goats Soap Company.

Yes. We use fresh goat milk from our own herd of registered LaMancha dairy goats in our goat milk products. Our goats are milked right here on our farm in South-Central Kentucky, and we freeze some of the milk so we can continue making our products throughout the year.

Not every product we make contains goat milk, so we clearly list the ingredients on each product page. If you’re specifically looking for goat milk skincare, you’ll find it in many of our soaps, lotions, and other goat milk products.

Yes. We make our goat milk soap with 100% fresh goat milk from our own herd of registered LaMancha dairy goats here on our farm in South-Central Kentucky.

Unlike recipes that use water as the primary liquid and add a smaller amount of goat milk, we use goat milk as the entire liquid portion of our goat milk soap recipe—no water. The milk is incorporated directly into our cold-process soapmaking process.

That’s one of the things we’re especially proud of at Silly Goats Soap Company: we raise the goats, milk the goats, and make the soap ourselves. 🐐

South-Central Kentucky.

Our product line includes goat milk bar soap, goat milk lotion, liquid goat milk soap, shampoo and conditioner bars, hemp skincare, face care products, baby products, herbal salves, natural deodorant, shaving products, bath bombs and shower steamers, sugar scrubs, goat milk bath products, lip balms, and more.

Everything we sell is handmade, packaged, and labeled by us at Silly Goats Soap Company. We don’t outsource our production or packaging.

Yes. Lye is necessary to make real soap. We use sodium hydroxide (lye) as part of our traditional cold-process soapmaking method.

During soapmaking, the lye reacts with the oils and fats in our recipe through a chemical process called saponification. During saponification, the lye and oils are transformed into soap and naturally occurring glycerin. Our bars are then allowed to cure for approximately four weeks.

So while lye is used to make our soap, a properly formulated and fully cured bar does not contain active lye. What remains is the finished soap created through the saponification process.

In fact, you can’t make true soap without lye—even products marketed as “lye-free soap” were either made with lye during manufacturing or aren’t technically soap.

We make cold-process soap only. This traditional soapmaking method allows the oils, goat milk, and lye in our recipe to go through the natural saponification process without cooking the finished soap.

After each batch is made, the soap is poured into molds, allowed to set, cut into individual bars, and then cured for approximately four weeks before it’s ready for you to use.

Cold-process soap takes more time and patience, but we believe it’s well worth the wait—and it’s the method we’ve used to make our handmade goat milk soap here at Silly Goats Soap Company.

Our goat milk soap is made with approximately 25% fresh goat milk.

In cold-process soapmaking, the recipe has to maintain the proper balance of oils, lye, and liquid for the saponification process to work correctly. In our recipe, fresh goat milk makes up the entire liquid portion—we do not dilute it with water.

So when we say goat milk soap, we mean it. The milk comes from our own herd of registered LaMancha dairy goats and is used directly in the soapmaking process.

How long a bar lasts depends on how often it’s used, how many people are using it, and especially how it’s stored between uses.

Because our goat milk soap is handmade using the cold-process method, it will last much longer when it’s allowed to dry completely between uses. A bar that’s left sitting in water or directly under the shower spray will soften and disappear much faster.

With proper care, a bar of Silly Goats goat milk soap should provide many showers and hand washings, but there isn’t an exact number of days that applies to everyone.

For the longest life, keep your soap on a well-draining soap dish or soap saver where air can circulate around the bar.

The secret is simple: keep your soap dry between uses.

After bathing or washing, place your bar on a well-draining soap dish or soap saver that allows water to drain away and air to circulate around the soap. Avoid leaving it sitting in water, on a flat shower shelf, or directly under the shower spray.

A little care between uses can make a big difference in how long your handmade goat milk soap lasts.

Yes! We make handmade solid shampoo and conditioner bars right here at Silly Goats Soap Company.

Our bars are a convenient alternative to traditional bottled shampoo and conditioner. They’re easy to use, long-lasting, and eliminate the need for plastic bottles.

Just like the rest of our products, our shampoo and conditioner bars are made, packaged, and labeled by us in our soap shop in South-Central Kentucky.

Skin Care & Ingredients

Yes. Many of our customers choose Silly Goats products specifically because they are looking for gentle, simple skincare for sensitive skin.

For especially sensitive skin, we recommend starting with our unscented and fragrance-free products, including our Pure & Natural line. These products are made without added fragrance or essential oils, which can be helpful for people whose skin is easily irritated.

Everyone’s skin is different, though, so we always recommend reviewing the full ingredient list and testing a new product on a small area first if you know your skin is particularly sensitive.

Goat milk soap can be a great choice for people with dry skin because it cleanses without the harsh detergents found in many conventional soaps and body washes.

Our handmade goat milk soap contains fresh goat milk along with skin-loving oils and naturally occurring glycerin, which is produced during the soapmaking process. Together, these help cleanse your skin without stripping away as much of its natural moisture.

Many of our customers tell us their skin feels softer and less dry after switching to our goat milk soap. Everyone’s skin is different, but choosing a gentle cleanser is an important part of caring for dry skin.

Many of our customers with eczema or psoriasis choose our goat milk soaps and skincare products as part of a gentle daily skincare routine. Our unscented and fragrance-free products are especially popular with customers who want to avoid added fragrances and essential oils.

However, eczema and psoriasis are medical conditions, and our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent either condition. Everyone’s skin is different, so we recommend reviewing the ingredients carefully and testing a new product on a small area first.

We’ve also created helpful resources about caring for skin affected by both conditions.

Yes. Many people use our handmade goat milk soap as a gentle facial cleanser. The best bar for you will depend on your skin type and individual needs.

For a simple, fragrance-free option, Pure & Natural Goat Milk Soap is a great place to start. We also offer several other soaps popular for facial cleansing, including Bastile Soap, Charcoal Soap, and Tea Tree Soap.

As with any new skincare product, if you have particularly sensitive skin, we recommend starting slowly and testing the soap on a small area first.

Yes. Our goat milk lotion can be used on your face, and many of our customers do. But everyone’s skin is different, and what works beautifully for one person may not be the best choice for another.

We see that even in our own family! Chris loves using our regular goat milk lotion on his face, while Sandy has more sensitive skin and finds it too rich for hers. In fact, that’s one of the reasons we created our Oil-Less Facial Moisturizer—for Sandy and others who prefer a lighter facial moisturizer.

If your skin tends to be sensitive or you’re unsure which product is right for you, start with a small amount and see how your skin responds.

Yes. We make goat milk products specifically for babies and young children.

For newborns, we recommend our Baby Soap Bar, made with just fresh goat milk and saponified olive oil. It produces a mild, silky lather rather than the big bubbles of our regular goat milk soaps.

As babies get a little older, our Bouncing Baby Soap provides a sudsier option while still being formulated with a high percentage of olive oil. For older babies and children, parents can also choose from our regular goat milk soaps. Because every child’s skin is different, we recommend testing a small area first, especially when using a soap containing fragrance or essential oils.

None of our handmade soaps are tear-free, so always keep the soap and lather away from your child’s eyes.

Some do. Any product that contains water or has a water-based component, such as our Goat Milk Lotion, requires a preservative to help prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, and yeast. We use Optiphen, a paraben & formaldehyde free preservative, in our lotions for product safety and stability.

Our bar soaps do not require added preservatives. The soap-making process and finished product are very different from a water-based lotion, so preservatives aren’t necessary.

Other products vary by formulation, so we always recommend checking the ingredient list on the individual product page if you’re looking for a specific ingredient.

We list the complete ingredients for each product on its individual product page so you know exactly what you’re purchasing and putting on your skin.

Because our formulas vary from product to product—including the oils, essential oils, fragrance oils, botanicals and other ingredients—the individual product page is the best place to find the most accurate ingredient information.

If you have a question about a particular ingredient or aren’t sure which product is right for you, contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Yes. We do not test our products on animals. Our products are handmade in small batches and tested by us, our family, and willing human volunteers—not on animals.

And while our goats provide the fresh milk used in many of our products, they’re part of our farm and family and are cared for every day. 🐐💚

Most of our products are made without gluten-containing ingredients. However, we are not a certified gluten-free facility, so we cannot guarantee that every product is completely free from trace amounts of gluten.

If you have a gluten allergy or sensitivity, we recommend checking the complete ingredient list on the individual product page before purchasing. If you’re unsure about a particular product, contact us and we’ll be happy to check the ingredients for you.

Silly Goats Soap Company is a family-owned and operated small business owned by Chris and Sandy Shaefer.

We’re both involved in the day-to-day operation of the business—from caring for and milking our goats to making, packaging, and labeling our products, filling orders, and helping our customers.

When you shop with Silly Goats Soap Company, you’re supporting a real family farm and small business, and we truly appreciate every order that comes through our door. 🐐❤️

We sure do! 🐐 We raise our own herd of registered LaMancha dairy goats right here on our family farm in South-Central Kentucky.

We care for and milk our goats ourselves, and their fresh milk is used to make our goat milk soaps, lotions, and other goat milk products. We also freeze milk during times of plenty so we have our own goat milk available for production throughout the year.

The goats aren’t just part of our company name or a marketing gimmick—they’re where Silly Goats Soap Company began, and they’re still a big part of our everyday lives.

We raise registered American LaMancha dairy goats right here on our family farm in South-Central Kentucky.

LaManchas are wonderful dairy goats known for their rich milk, friendly nature, and, of course, their distinctive little ears. Their fresh milk is what we use in our goat milk soaps, lotions, and other goat milk products.

But around here, they’re much more than milk producers. Every one of our goats has a name and her own distinct personality—and they know their names! Some are sweet, some are stubborn, some are troublemakers, and some seem convinced they’re in charge of the whole farm.

As we like to tell people, “They’re just like dogs that don’t listen.” 😂🐐

Absolutely. We milk our own LaMancha dairy goats right here on our family farm, and that fresh milk goes directly into making our goat milk soaps, lotions, and other goat milk products.

During the milking season, we freeze some of our fresh goat milk so we have plenty available to continue making products throughout the year.

From raising and milking the goats to making, packaging, and labeling the finished products, we handle it all ourselves. When we say our products are made with milk from our own goats, that’s exactly what we mean. 🐐🥛

Silly Goats Soap Company started pretty simply—with a few goats, some homemade goat milk soap, and a card table.

After moving to the country, we wanted to live a little more simply and become more self-sufficient. That eventually led us to dairy goats, and once we had plenty of fresh goat milk, we began making goat milk soap for ourselves, family, and friends.

People liked what we were making, so we started selling our soap at local farmers markets and craft shows. What began with a few products on a card table slowly grew into the family business we have today.

We’ve added a lot of products and served a whole lot of customers since then, but the heart of the business hasn’t changed: we still raise and milk our own goats, make our products ourselves, and package and label everything right here in our soap shop.

Want the longer version? You can read Our Story to see how a few goats and a card table became Silly Goats Soap Company.

Silly Goats Soap Company has been in business since July 2014.

What started with a few goats, homemade goat milk soap, and a card table has grown into a family business serving customers across the country. More than 12 years later, we’re still doing things much the same way—raising and milking our own goats and handmaking, packaging, and labeling every product right here in our soap shop.

We’ve grown quite a bit since those early days, but we’re proud that Silly Goats Soap Company is still family-owned, family-operated, and handmade in South-Central Kentucky.
