Before & After New Soap Shop Pics !
We have finally finished the construction of our Silly Goats Soap Shop here at Silly Goats Farm in beautiful South Central, Kentucky!
We moved to our new farm in Sept. 2019 and by the grace of God we sold our old farm in Central, NY and bought this farm just before Covid hit our country.
We started the daunting task of gutting out this existing, old equipment run-in shed that had been built in sections over the years by the previous owners and converting it into our little dream soap shop here on our new farm.
The run-in was different dimensions and levels because of the slope of the ground and the additions added on over the years. Inside these additions there was a dog kennel, goat pens and food storage area that had to be removed and cleaned out.
The next step was digging post holes and setting poles to extend the whole front out to make it one level across the front.
We also added a front porch to the shop.
Next was adding floor joists. Making the floor all one level.
After the floor was installed we extended the roof out, we studded in the front wall and framed in the windows and front door.
We put the windows and front door in.
Next we tore down the wall that divided the the garage area with the 2 garage bays from the rest of the building.
Wrapped with weather barrier and hung the steel siding.
Next we framed the inside walls.
Had designated 220 volt run to the shop and ran the electric through the shop, milk room and goat shelter.
Insulated…Barn kitties helped!
Sheet rocked, mudded the walls and ceiling. We also put in a drop down ceiling in the office and labeling section.
Keep in mind, we are still farming, milking the goats, manufacturing products (in the basement of the house), packing and shipping your orders.
After mudding we had to sand down everything, re-mud and sand again… Did I mention I hate sheet rocking?
We come to the Priming and Painting. We bought a new paint sprayer and painted the same Prickly Pear paint color as we had on our Soap Shop in Central NY.
Did the floors and trim next.
We put the half wall in to define the retail store space and added some barn wood for the accent wall.
Kitchen was next. Stainless steel tables with white steel walls making it easy to clean and keep everything sterile for making products.
Somewhere in this process I needed to put in a exit door in the Milk Room. Bringing the goats in for milking is a chore all by itself. They all want in at the same time for their sweet grain. Having a exit door to a different pasture keeps me sane and my silly goats from fighting and fussing! Win Win!
While we were on the milk room we went ahead and framed in the front, put in the door and windows and sided the outside.
Time to start with the finishing touches. HVAC going in. We went with the mini splits!
Time to get moved in to the new shop.
We built our first soap shop in central NY. We worked in it for 2 years and loved every minute ( remember, we started in our kitchen in mid-2014), before we were able to sell our farm up north and buy this place in KY.
It was never our plan to take this long building and moving into our new shop here in KY, but with C19 pandemic and difficult economy, we could not finish building as quickly as we wanted, because we just could not afford to. But, by the grace of God, we managed with the help of friends and just doing what we could afford a a little at a time.
Being able to walk out my back door and do chores here on the farm and then being able to walk out the front door to my shop and run my own business is a dream I have had for a very long time. I am blessed beyond what I deserve. I have the most wonderful wife who has been with me through this all and I cannot thank her enough. God has made a way through this whole journey and to be honest, farming, milking goats and making soap was nowhere on my radar of what I would be doing with my life. sometimes the biggest blessings are the unexpected ones.
